A real experience
We love it when a client comes to us with an unbridled passion for their work, particularly
when that endless energy isn’t tethered to a particular brand identity or concept.
Experiences by Katie was a whirlwind in all the best ways. It was a furious collision of a
skyful of ideas with a boundless energy. But it was a nebulous brief - the client wanted
something that was - her. That was our challenge, and it was the start of a remarkable
journey.
Katie showed us that our process of diving deep into the client’s personality and
ambitions was exactly right, but there was still a lot of work to do. Our process would be
tested, but in the end both the client and Oh Yeah would be happier, and better because
of it.
Crafting clarity from chaos
Katie came to us with a patchwork of alluring images and idea, her work was glamorous and gritty, from high class events to underground urban gatherings. It was demonstrably her, but was thin ice to build a brand on. Our first milestone was to find a brand foundation, firm, fertile ground on which we could kickstart a new brand identity. The solution was a collision: Urban Glamour - we brought together distinct elements from all aspects of Katie’s inspiration and ambition and made it our overarching design system for the entire rebrand.
Story, sound and soul
Our pitch to the client was deceptively simple, and we went for broke with it. Instead of
simply showing off a few ideas that might be enticing enough to get Katie on board, we
did what we knew she’d want - we created an experience. Using music, images and a
precise narrative we took our client through the feelings we believed she would want to
create. We created our own Experience for Katie, and that won us the chance to help her
make her mark.
A complete rebrand was called for, one that allowed her untamed energy and furious
passion for her work to shine through. We ask every client that we work with a number of
questions, devised to uncover their desires, ambitions, and their story. These give us a
shared destination, and it allows us to fuel our rebrand with both the spirit and the
emotion of what she wanted to see every day. It needed to be a brand identity that
encapsulated her, allowed her to shine, and one that would leave everyone who
experienced it with a feeling of, ‘Who was that?! I want to work with her…’
Electric elegance
Through a succession of image boards and social story creations we were able to create
an idea and a logo design that was elegant and instantly recognisable. The signature K
was created - a perfect mark to identify the company, and a beautiful bow on everything
she would do. It was her stamp of authority, her mark made perfectly.
The light trails which are prominent were chosen to capture the dizzying feeling of
untamed excitement that Katie brings. She is a force of nature, and we needed the
imagery to convey this. There is a genuine confidence in the images, but there was
something else that was needed. A boldness and luxury that was another key element of
what she wanted the brand to embody. For this we created a bespoke Brushed Gold filter
- something that would give every image associated with her brand its own recognisable
sheen.
Her story, her style
Building on our process, we were able to develop the design language so it would push
this feeling to the fore. It was our assumption that the energetic aspect of Katie’s
personality would be best way to convey exactly who she is - through this design
language. All aspects stemmed from this, including our tailored social messaging which
told her compelling story through our eye-catching high impact language scrawled over
the top of generic placeholder text. We wanted to convey her very essence through
instantly recognisable imagery. The scrawled text literally overwrote the generic
messaging beneath. She was on top of this, in all senses.
The messaging was created around Katie’s own great energy, confidence as well as her
own personal journey. This was a rebirth, a triumph of discipline, commitment and
boldness. It was essential that everything we did came from this idea. Early on, the notion
of Making your Mark was chosen as the brand value at the heart of the identity.
Experiences by Katie is all about helping brands make the biggest and boldest impression
on the public, showcasing them in the most confident and surprising way possible was
the goal. We knew that Katie would want that for herself. She wanted to make her mark,
prove the haters wrong.
